SAFE BATTERY DISPOSAL

I read an article recently about the number of fires at Waste Treatment plants caused by batteries that have been disposed of in the ‘normal’ waste. Lithium-ion batteries, which power our mobile devices, are particularly hazardous if they are punctured. Between April 2019 and March 2020 there were an estimated 250 fires at Treatment plants caused by lithium-ion batteries.

On our courses we talk about a range of topics that can cause problems whether it be health and safety, environmental or efficiency problems. Failure to dispose of any waste correctly might simply be shifting, or causing, a problem elsewhere.
